West Milford — Let’s take a glance at local student-athletes who competed in collegiate sports this past spring season.
Brian Sondergard Sondergard (West Milford High School) was a red shirt senior, left handed pitcher for the New Jersey Institute of Technology’s (Newark) baseball squad this year. Sondergard, who earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering appeared in 18 games and started in four of them for NJIT. He had a record of 4-2 on the mound with a 3.03 earned run average.
Sondergard struck out 24 batters in 2018. Sondergard earned a place on the ASUN All-Academic Team.
The Highlanders had an overall mark of 22-25 and they were 5-6 on their home field. In the ASUN Conference they posted a record of 9-12. NJIT advanced to the ASUN Baseball Championships, where they were defeated by Stetson and Lipscomb in games played in Jacksonville, Florida.
Victoria Torp
Torp, a graduate of West Milford High School, was a senior pitcher this past season for the Stockton University softball program. Torp appeared in a team-high 23 games and started in seven of them for Stockton.
She had four pitching victories and a 3.25 earned run average. She also led the team with five saves and struck out 29 batters.
The Ospreys had an overall record of 24-17, which included a mark of 10-4 on their home field. In the New Jersey Athletic Conference they tallied a record of 10-8.
Stockton advanced to the NJAC Tournament where it defeated Rowan University in an opening-round game played in Glassboro. From there, the Ospreys lost NJAC Tournament games to Ramapo College and Rowan University, which were held in Montclair.
Zach Haid Haid (West Milford High School) was a junior who played attack for Delaware Valley University’s men’s lacrosse team this spring.
Haid, listed as a business administration major, played in three games and had an assist for Delaware Valley. Delaware Valley had three overall victories, including two at home and one win in the Metro Atlantic Conference Freedom Division.
Anthony HanrattyHanratty, a graduate of West Milford High School, was on the roster as a freshman midfielder for the Felician University men’s lacrosse team this year.
Hanratty, listed as a marketing major, played in all 12 games and started in nine of them for Felician. He tallied five goals as well as five assists.
The Golden Falcons collected one victory during the 2018 which occurred at home in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game versus Post.
