Girls on the Run New Jersey North will open registration for the fall season on Aug. 7.
The group is excited to announce it will be featuring new curriculums for both the Girls on the Run program as well as the middle school program, Heart and Sole. The research based lessons include tools for developing strong friendships and tips for girls to realize their full potential. Similar to the previous programming, each of the 20 lessons include dynamic discussions, learning games that integrate physical activity and prompts for reflections and extending the lessons outside of practice.
For girls that have previously participated in Girls on the Run, the lessons will build on the topics from previous seasons and will help them gain a further understanding of how they can utilize the skills that they’ve developed in their everyday lives.
The introduction of Heart and Sole 2 this fall allows the girls to experience a new curriculum that covers even more of the topics that resonate with middle school girls. Some of the topics covered in the new curriculum include, dealing with stress, identifying what’s important to them in their personal relationships and connecting with others outside of their comfort zone.
The GOTR season will begin the first week in September and conclude with the GOTR 5K in November at the New Jersey State Fairgrounds.
In West Milford, there are two GOTR sessions- one at the West Milford Presbyterian Church on Mondays and Thursdays and another at Maple Road Elementary School on Mondays and Wednesdays.
The Girls on the Run curriculum combines training to run/walk a 5K (3.1 miles) with lessons that inspire girls to become independent thinkers, enhance their problem solving skills and make healthy decisions. All of this is accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff, and the community.
Girls on the Run registration will open once again with a lottery system. The lottery will remain open from Aug. 7 through 9. All remaining spots will be first come, first serve. This system allows for equal opportunity for all families. More information is available on the website, gotrnjn.org.
At Girls on the Run New Jersey North, the goal is to serve all girls who want to participate. Scholarships are available. The group is currently seeking coaches at all of its sites. More coaches allows for more teams. Coaching requires a commitment of 1.5 hours twice a week, for 10 weeks and is a very rewarding experience.
Join the team and make a difference in the life of a young girl. Coaches will receive a guaranteed placement for their daughter.
