State of emergency issued Tuesday

New Jersey State Police have issued a state of emergency for Tuesday throughout the state during the snow storm. A blizzard warning is in effect from midnight Tuesday to midnight Wednesday.
West Milford's Office of Emergency Management has asked residents to stay off the roads to allow plowing to be done safely.
Residents who experience power outages should call their utility companies. They are reminded to call 911 only for emergencies.
Schools are closed Tuesday.
Trash and recycling scheduled for pick up on Tuesday morning will be picked up instead on Saturday, March 18.
The West Milford Board of Education meeting, originally scheduled for Tuesday evening, has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 16, at Westbrook School beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The County of Passaic freeholders meeting is also moved to Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
What to expectAccording to the National Weather Service, up to 30 inches of snow will accumulate in West Milford from late Monday night through Tuesday evening. The storm will be accompanied by wind gusts as high as 55 mph and visibility on the roads will be one half to one-quarter mile or less at times.
The National Weather Service recommends these tips to stay safe during winter storms and extremely cold weather:
Only healthy individuals should shovel heavy, wet snow
Always run generators outside (not in the garage)
Minimize travel
Stay indoors during the worst part of the extreme cold
Keep a winter survival kit in your vehicle if you must travel
Check tire pressure, antifreeze levels and heater/defroster, etc.
Learn how to shut off water valves for potential pipe bursts
Bring pets inside
Weather-proof doors and windows to trap heat inside your home
