West Milford author will hold book signing at museum

| 21 Feb 2018 | 07:49

Local author Dan C. Gunderman will be appearing at the West Milford Museum on Saturday, March 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. for a special book signing event. (Snow date March 24)
Gunderman's historical fiction novel, Synod, was released by Zimbell House on Jan. 9. The tale, set in 1829, follows the gruff, self-reliant Goldfinch, a veteran of the War of 1812, who's become the chosen leader of an idyllic religious community named Synod, nestled in the Ramapo Mountains of northern New Jersey.
Following its Founders' wishes, Synod becomes a stop on what would soon be called the 'Underground Railroad.'
When a broken runaway family comes through the village, Goldfinch must turn away ravenous bounty hunters and halt the advance of a corrupt state politician determined to eliminate runaway slave dens.
Set against the latter years of the Second Great Awakening, Synod is both an endeavor in world-rebuilding and a fast-paced examination of the law and, perhaps, complacency of the era.
Gunderman is a former staff writer and film/TV critic for the N.Y. Daily News.
He's currently a contributing film reviewer for a number of sites and the associate editor of a media site dedicated to cyber security.
A limited number of copies will be available for purchase on March 10 at the Museum.
Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own copies of the book for signing.
Gunderman will discuss plot, process, fiction, regional history, and more. Although Synod is fictional, Gunderman is always eager to discuss the region used as the setting for his novel, an area brimming with historical significance — from Peter Hasenclever to Abraham S. Hewitt, etc.
The West Milford Museum is pleased to present this program with author and local resident Dan Gunderman, who chose our region as a setting for his new historical fiction novel.
To purchase a copy of Synod, find it on Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Zimbell's online bookstore.
