WEST MILFORD — It may be summer time for most people, but at the West Milford Animal Shelter, it's kitten season. Most kittens are born in the spring. Some years early in the season and some years later in the season.
This year, most were born later in the season. One litter of three strays kittens arrived with runny eyes, dirty faces and fur and empty belly's. Because they were a trio, they were named Snap, Krackle, and Pop after mascots of Rice Crispies cereal.
Snap had the most infected eyes. He and his litter mates recovered and Snap was recently adopted. Krackle and Pop are still waiting for new homes and families. The before and after photos show what a difference a safe and caring environment, medical attention and fresh food and water can make in the lives of homeless animals.
Walk-a-Dog-Athon is coming upIf you can't adopt but want to help, one way is to attend or support the shelter's annual Walk-A-Dog-Athon. This year they are kickin' it up a notch with a western theme. So put on your boots, and hitch up your doggies and come join the Waggin' Trail through Wawayanda State Park on Sunday, Sept. 17. Come with or without a dog and enjoy a walk through the park, contest and games. Every dog receives a free goody bag and bandanna.
