Sustainable West Milford is looking for volunteers to help harvest fresh produce for delivery to local food pantries, including Queen of Peace, Holy Faith, St. Joseph’s and West Milford Presbyterian Church. Sustainable West Milford is the group that founded Ample Harvest as a method for gardeners to share fresh produce with those in need. They have expanded to two teams this year !
Apple Acres - The group meets on Fridays at 6 p.m. from June through October, at the Apple Acres Organic Community Garden. Picking season began June 24.
Wallisch Homestead - The newest community garden celebrates the inaugural season at the Wallisch Homestead. This team is preparing to harvest on Wednesdays and join their donations at the West Milford Farmer’s market.
Ample Harvest also accepts donations from local gardeners. If you grow too much, don’t let it go to waste. Share it with those in need. Donations may be dropped off on Fridays at Apple Acres no later than 6 p.m. or at the West Milford Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays no later than 6:30 p.m.
Call Cathy at 973-728-8578 or email cgb2673@optonline.net to volunteer or learn more.
