— Corporate leaders from Lakeland Bank and Eastern Propane visited the Department for Persons with Disabilities’ (DPD) Columbus House and Wiegand Farm to kick off preparations for their 39th Annual Wiegand Farm Golf Classic.

DPD provides support for adults with developmental disabilities and their families. DPD operates 9 group homes, 2 supervised apartments and a vocational day program for people with special needs throughout Morris, Passaic and Sussex County. There are over 8,000 people with developmental disabilities on a waiting list to get into programs like those operated by DPD.

The Wiegand Farm Golf Classic is one of the DPD’s largest fundraisers. Last year, the event sold out and raise over $50,000. The 39th annual event will be held at Bowling Green Golf Club and Berkshire Valley Golf Course on June 24, 2013. All proceeds from the event will be directed toward resident care, including for those who live at the Wehrlen House in West Milford.

Roni Brandt, Tom Shara, Russell Dunn and Tracey Conklin represented Lakeland Bank and dropped off a check for their event sponsorship of the 2013 Classic.

Chairman Robert B. Nicholson and President Robert B. Nicholson III represented Eastern Propane, who will be honored as the 2013 Humanitarians of the Year for their continuous support of DPD, Jefferson Township and Morris and Sussex County.

Representatives from both businesses were led on a tour of Columbus House by DPD Executive Director Scott Milliken and DPD Development Director Chris Brancato. "There are not many golf outings, or fundraisers for that matter, than have been in existence for nearly four decades," said Milliken. "We are proud that the Wiegand Farm Golf Classic is one of them and are fortunate to have support from our local communities, friends and corporations such as Lakeland Bank and Eastern Propane. We are proud to honor the Nicholson Family and Eastern Propane for their community service to DPD and other organizations in need.”

Department for Persons with Disabilities hopes to draw 160 golfers to the 2013 event.

"DPD does a fantastic job with the outing that continues to grow each year. We are proud to be their corporate partners,” said Lakeland Bank Vice President Russell Dunn.

The Wiegand Farm Golf Classic Committee and the Department for Persons with Disabilities is in need of help with the 2013 event. Anyone wishing to golf, sponsor the event, donate silent auction items or join the committee, contact Chris Brancato at 973-406-1104 or at or go to the outing's Web site at
