WEST MILFORD — Come see "The Highlands Rediscovered," a beautifully shot (in high definition) and informative 30-minute documentary explaining the history of the Highlands region and why it became the source of clean drinking water for more than half of the state's population.
It will be shown on Wednesday, March 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the Greenwood Lake Airport.
The film explains how the ecological functions of the Highlands forests cleanse rain as it percolates into aquifers and ultimately into surface reservoirs. It also presents the challenges the Highlands region is faced with in retaining its important forests under pressures to develop the land.
The movie is presented by the Highlands Economic Development and Tourism Corporation (HEAT) .
Staff of the New Jersey Highlands Coalition will be available following the film to answer any questions and to discuss the importance that the Highlands has to the state's water supply, outdoor recreation, tourist economies, and quality of life issues for all of New Jersey, and the current threats to the Highlands.
The screening is free and open to the public. To see a portion of the documentary, go to www.njheat.org.
