  • There's lots of ways to get around Pinecliff Lake at the Irish Whisper Walk of Hope in Memory of Danny Kane.

The day started off rainy, windy and cool on Saturday, April 26, but by the time the registration and the walk around Pinecliff Lake was to take place, the sun was shining brightly. As always, the walkers were of good cheer and the family of Danny Kane, lost to mantle cell lymphoma in 2009, was on deck, welcoming and thanking the walkers and saluting cancer survivors at this Irish Whisper Walk of Hope in Memory of Danny Kane.

Kane’s widow, Patti Kane, exuberant in her gratitude, spoke of her hope that each step taken by each walker and the funds they raise for the Lymphoma Research Foundation will make a difference in the life of other patients currently battling the disease.

While the group assembled at the Pinecliff Lake Clubhouse numbered around 200, there were others walking in Kane’s memory at distant locations, some on Cape Cod and some as far away as Australia.

Kane reported that the life expectancy of those with the disease has doubled since 2006, from three to six years.

“We are making a difference, making my husband’s dream come true. Be proud of yourselves,” she said.

The Irish Whisper Team has been responsible for raising $264,623 for the foundation over the past few years. At the end of this day, another $38,000 was added to that total.

Also at the end of the day a beautiful rainbow appeared above West Milford.

“Tell me that isn’t a sign from heaven," Kane said.
