WEST MILFORD — The West Milford Township Public Schools celebrates its music and art programs. Now, West Milford has been named one of the "Best Communities for Music Education" for 2014.

This isn't the first time NAMM Foundation included West Milford in its prestigious list.

According to a press release from NAMM,

“The BCME program applauds the efforts of teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders working to assure that music education is part of the core curriculum,” according to a press release from NAMM.

More than 2,000 schools and school districts participated in this year’s nationwide survey; 376 districts were listed as Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) and 96 individual schools were listed as “Support Music Merit Award” winners.

“These districts and schools set the bar in offering students access to comprehensive music education,” the release continued.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the district said, "We are happy to report that our school district has once again been named to the list of Best Communities for Music Education (2014). West Milford is one of only 376 districts throughout the United States to receive this designation. This recognition comes as no surprise to those who participate in or witness our district performances. Another reason for Highlander pride!”

The NAMM Foundation is a non-profit supported in part by the National Association of Music Merchants and its 9,000 members around the world. The NAMM Foundation works to advance active participation in music making across the lifespan by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving and public service programs.”
