Animal shelter is celebrating 'Christmas in July'

Christmas in July celebrations are believed to have started when a group of Irish tourists went on a vacation in Sydney Australia’s Blue Mountains during the summer of 1980. They wanted to escape the summer heat and were thrilled by the sight of snow. They convinced the owner of the hotel to hold a party called “Yulefest.” The party was a big hit and the hotel owner then held a party every July.

Many other businesses took up the tradition and it has become a big promotion event for hotels, bars, restaurants, gift and other shops. There are now many Christmas in July festivals and craft events.

Before this, there was a 1940 movie called “Christmas in July.”

The West Milford Animal Shelter is celebrating “Christmas in July” in a much different way. The shelter has been decorated with Christmas and summer time items and is very festive and cheerful to help shine a light on the many homeless cats, kittens and dogs in need of homes and families.

Every person who adopts during the month of July will receive a special sand pail filled with goodies for their new best friend and companion. Adopters will receive the gift of unconditional love and the new love of their lives will have toys and treats for their new home.
