Township extends tax deadline

WEST MILFORD — Residents have an additional two weeks to pay their third quarter tax bills. The township council approved extending the due date to Aug. 15, 2014.

The added time is because the tax rate certification came in to the tax department on July 2 and bills were mailed on July 11. Normally, taxes may be paid in full or in quarterly installments on Feb. 1, May 1, Aug. 1 and Nov. 1 each year.

If you don't get the third quarter amount paid by Aug. 15, though, you will be charged interest at the rate of 8 percent on the first $1,500 and 18 percent on any remaining balance above $1,500. Interest is retroactive to the original due date.
