Marion Blumenthal Lazan, Holocaust survivor and author of “Four Perfect Pebbles,” shared her story with fifth and sixth grade students, parents, and staff members at Paradise Knoll School before the end of the school year. Lazan spoke firsthand about her experiences as a nine-year-old girl held captive with her family in the German concentration camp Bergen-Belsen, the same camp where Anne Frank died.

Lazan described in detail the horrific conditions they faced daily for several years during their imprisonment until they were liberated by the Russian and Allied troops. Lazan’s message was not one of despair, but of determination, perseverance, faith and hope - the very things that helped her survive the concentration camp and eventually live a wonderful and very fulfilling life.

Lazan now has several children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and travels the world sharing her story and her message, speaking of tolerance and understanding for all mankind in words and ways her audiences can relate to and understand.

The moving and powerful presentation left an impact on all who attended, and they left perhaps a little kinder and wiser, with a strong feeling of community and hope for the future.
