  • The entire group from PK and Maple Road took some time in front of Lambert Castle in Paterson. It was a wondrous site.

During the autumn months of the school year, the Passaic County Historical Society offered a grant to Passaic County schools for the purposes of attending Lambert Castle in Paterson. The grant provided free admission into the historic landmark.

Dr. Gregory Matlosz, supervisor of History and Social Sciences for the district, applied for the grant and won free admission for Maple Road and Paradise Knoll Elementary Schools.

“The trip to Lambert Castle is an important one for our elementary students. Our curriculum promotes the study of New Jersey and local history," said Matlosz. "Our second, third and fourth grade students were amazed with the architecture and historical significance of Lambert Castle. I highly recommend this destination as a day trip for all West Milford residents.”

The teachers and students received a guided tour of the entire castle which holds artifacts dating from the early 19th century to the 20th century. West Milford students were transported back into the Victorian era as the tour guides presented the opportunity to compare their way of life in the modern era versus a time with gas lighting.

“The students had a fantastic time learning about local history," said Kimberly Volz, second grade teacher at Paradise Knoll. "The students thoroughly enjoyed the castle and all of the exciting artifacts it shared.”
