Bakunas along with their leaders Eric Lindstrom, Paul DuBois, Ron Palomba, Dan Butcher, Brian McLaughlin, Rich Bakunas, Kaden Kopko and Tim Kopko. Their guides, Ben Aiken and Joe Esther, are also pictured.

Boy Scouts from Troop 159 out of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Hewitt spent their winter break at Florida Sea Base High Adventure Camp.

Starting at the tip of the Florida Keys, these scouts left their phones and electronics behind at the base as they paddled 5.5 miles out over open water to reach their final destination, Big Munson Island. There they exemplified the goals of scouting: fitness, character and citizenship as they survived the deserted island.

Throughout the week, they kayaked through mangroves, snorkeled in the coral reef, went deep sea fishing and performed service projects to preserve the island.

Boys interested in high adventure or just scouting in general may contact Scoutmaster Dan Butcher at scoutmaster@OLQPTroopandpack159.org.
