The West Milford High School Interact Club will once again be helping to make prom dreams come true as they host the “Cinderella Project” dress sale on Saturday, Feb. 18, in the high school’s lower media center.

The community is invited to attend the dress sale event between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. to browse and purchase quality new and “gently used” gowns and dresses for prom or other formal and semi-formal events at significant cost savings below typical retail prices. The proceeds of the dress sale go toward helping teens with financial difficulties to be able to go to their prom.

How it worksThrough the Cinderella Project, the Interact Club collects formal and semi-formal gowns and dresses of various styles that are donated by the community, and then holds the Cinderella Project dress sale where they re-sell the dresses at low prices to other members of the community. Shoppers may find their dream dress at a price they can afford, and the proceeds of the dress sale provide the club with money to anonymously help fund the price of prom bids for West Milford teens who need financial assistance.

Following the dress sale event, the Interact Club historically has donated any remaining unsold dresses to the Cinderella Project Foundation in New York, where they go directly to financially challenged young women in need of dresses.

According to the Cinderella Project New York City website, “Donations of quality new and 'gently used' formal dresses and gowns as well accessories allow young women to attend their high school formal occasions without worrying about the financial burden associated with attending such events and allows for the opportunity to have memories of what is one of the most special events and milestones in a young girl’s life—the Prom.”

Dresses wantedDress donations are needed in advance for the dress sale event to be successful, and can be dropped off at the Guidance Office at the West Milford High School. Other drop off locations may be available - contact the Interact Club at the high school for more information. The club is asking the community to search their closets for donations. The sale isn't exclusive to prom gowns; the Interact Club is also accepting donations of other formal and semi-formal dresses, cocktail dresses, and even summer dresses - any type of gown or dress in good condition that would be appropriate for formal or semi-formal events. This is a great opportunity to clean out those closets and pass along the dresses you wore maybe once or twice, and don’t plan to wear again. Share the information with others who may be interested in donating to the cause.

About the WMHS Interact ClubThe West Milford High School Interact Club is a high school club that focuses on giving back to the community through volunteer service, working with guidance from the Rotary Club. Their motto is "Service above Self", which they draw upon with every project the club takes on. During the school year, club members volunteer at nearly 30 different township events, including the township’s annual tree lighting ceremony, Beautification Day, rabies clinics, blood drives, and more. The Interact Club hopes that this year’s Cinderella Project will be a huge success so that it will continue to benefit not only underprivileged teens for the prom, but also benefit the West Milford Community.

For more information about the 2017 Cinderella Project or the Interact Club, or to find out about other dress donation drop off locations or how to make a monetary donation, contact Alison D’Angelo of the Interact Club at West Milford High School at 973-697-1701.
