This week we Take Five with Kalleen Rose Ozanic, a sophomore at West Milford High School who is a member of the track and field team. Kaleen was inspired by the Olympics and looks up to Usain Bolt (who wouldn't!). She also loves movies and books and flying through the air for the high jump. Remember to go to our website, westmilfordmessenger.com, for our bonus five with Kaleen.

1. How did you get involved with track and field?
I’ve loved running since I was little, and my mom and I thought I would excel in track and field, so I signed up for the sport freshman year. It came as a surprise that I primarily became a jumper, though. I remember how cool it was to watch the track and field events in the 2012 Olympics.
2. What would most people be surprised to know about track and field?
The first time I high jumped, it was the day before a big relay meet. The team had an empty spot to fill, so Coach Leslie (the awesome jumping coach) asked me if I wanted to try it. I jumped 4’6” on the first try! At the meet the next day, I high jumped 4’8”.
3. Who is your favorite teacher of all time? Why?
My favorite teacher is Mrs. (Nicole) Petrosillo. She was my English teacher freshman year and is my journalism teacher this year. Her class is so much fun!
4. What do you do with your time, when you are not participating in track and field?
Homework. Also, I read books and watch movies with my mom.
5. Share something no one knows about you.
I held on to a loose tooth for three months when I was 6. I wasn’t ready to let it go.

Do you know someone who should be featured here at Take Five? Let us know who and why. Email us a njoffice@strausnews.com. We want to feature all of the wonderful young people in the township.

Bonus five
6. Who is your biggest inspiration?
Usain Bolt
7. Name three things you would bring with you if you were on a deserted island?
I would bring The Book Thief (my favorite book), my Swiss Army knife, and a plane (to escape, of course).
8. Share a favorite moment with your team.
My favorite moment with my track team was last year at County Championships when I was high jumping, and my friends and teammates were all sitting at the edge of the turf and cheering me on.
9. What does being a Highlander mean to you?
To me, being a Highlander is trying your best academically and athletically, and helping others.
10. What is your favorite movie, book or character?
My favorite movie is either “Captain America: Civil War” or “Inception.”
