Lock your house, car

Police are reminding residents of the township to lock their homes and cars in light of several burglaries in the Upper Greenwood Lake section of town.

The burglaries took place between Jan. 29 and Feb. 6, according to West Milford Police, on Gladstone, Riverside and Upper Greenwood Roads.

Police say the suspect, who they believe committed all three burglaries, is described as a white male in his early 20s.

The break-ins occurred during the day when the residences were unoccupied, police said. The homes were unlocked. Residents should always lock their homes and cars, preventing these crimes of opportunity.

The first burglary occurred on Gladstone Road; the second on Feb. 3 on Upper Greenwood Road. The third crime was committed on Feb. 6 on Riverside Road. At that site, the homeowner’s son returned home while the burglar was there.

Money and/or jewelry were taken from all three homes.

One resident in the area contacted the West Milford Messenger this week and voiced concern.

“I am scared,” said the resident who did not wish to be identified. “And my neighbors are afraid too.”

The West Milford Police Department on their Facebook page encourages residents to contact them at 973-728-2800 or 911 if they see anything suspicious in their neighborhoods.
