  • Some of last year's Faith in Action participants washed windows for local businesses. This year they will be doing the same as well as planting, cleaning up, collecting food and helping at a blood drive.

If you keep your eyes open Sunday, you just may see the church at work.

Worship services will let out early, so volunteers from eight local churches can put their faith in action as they serve the community. Members of West Milford Presbyterian, United Methodist (Newfoundland), Oak Ridge Presbyterian, Journey Church, Holy Faith Lutheran, St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic, Freedom Church, and Echo Lake Baptist will be fanning out all over town to lend a helping hand. It is neighbor helping neighbor, it is working together and serving the community.

On this day, the churches put aside denominational differences and serve Christ side by side. It is great to see the churches working together and strengthening our community.

Some of this year's projects include: planting at Veterans Park, grounds clean-up at the Wallisch Estate, blood drive at West Milford Ambulance building, yard clean-up for seniors, window washing for businesses, and food drives - this year there will be two food drives, one at ShopRite, and Walgreens in West Milford and another at Acme in Jefferson. No pressure but if you want to get extra items to stock the shelves at the local food pantries, look for the truck with the orange "Faith in Action" sign in the parking lot. Items needed include: tuna, canned vegetables, canned fruit, tomato sauce, soups, cereal, cake mixes, mayonnaise, ketchup, coffee, and tea. Every bit helps. Let’s work together to help our community.

For more information about Faith in Action, check out facebook at Faith in Action: Community Churches of the Highlands or contact any of the participating churches.
