Byros bring 'Circles and Squares' to Suffern

Michael Byro’s new art exhibit, “Circles and Squares,” is coming to the Suffern Free Library for the month of June. Byro’s “byromania” paintings have appeared in various venues around Northern New Jersey including the New Weis Ecology Center in Ringwood and the Lycian Theatre in Sugar Loaf, N.Y. June 1 to June 30 it is displayed at the Suffern Free Library in Suffern, N.Y., with a reading of his wife Laurie Byro’s new book on the Bloomsbury Set on June 15 at 6:30 p.m.

The show’s title comes from a Dorothy Parker quote and the epigraph for Laurie Byro’s latest book, “The Bloomsbury set lived in squares, painted in circles and loved in triangles.”

Byro’s award-winning paintings are done in pointillism and are on sale at the Suffern Library and Weis Ecology Center.

Lifelong residents of West Milford, Laurie Byro received a New Jersey Poet’s prize for work in this latest collection. She has been facilitating the “Circle of Voices” poetry discussion at the West Milford Library for the past 17 years. Her recently published fifth book was fascinating for her to research. This is the second book that takes characters from history, such as Ernest Hemingway, Gertrude Stein and now Virginia Woolf and Vanessa Bell, where she breathes life back into these characters who lived in Paris, the UK, Italy and traveled all over the world.

The Byros have traveled to most of the places in their writings and art. Many of Byro’s paintings began as snapshots. Traveling also helped Laurie Byro enormously when it was time to take off her traveling shoes and put pen to paper.

Join them for this exciting reception in June. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of paintings will go to the Suffern Library.
