Fun-filled softball season ends with water ballons and chalk dust

Champions for the Majors and Minors Divisions of the West Milford Girls Softball Association's Recreational League have been crowned.

The Minors' Division championship went to the Tornado Girls, team 5, sponsored by Financial Principles. They defeated team 8, Sparta Aquamarine. The Tornado Girls were 9-1 on the season.

In the Majors Division, team 6 the Hornets, sponsored by West Milford PBA 162, faced off against team 5, sponsored by Lightroom Studios. For the second year in a row, the PBA Hornets won the Majors Division championship and finished with an undefeated record.

Having one of the few thriving recreational leagues for girl’s softball remaining in the area, the West Milford Girls Softball Association welcomed and incorporated teams from Sparta and Vernon into their Minors and Majors Division schedules this year.

The Minors Division was comprised of eight teams this year, including one team from Sparta and one from Vernon.

The Majors Division had 11 teams, which included three teams from Sparta and two from Vernon.

Following playoff elimination games played over the course of the previous two weeks by all teams, the two remaining teams from each division faced off in the championship games on June 16.

In the end, all of the girls in the league enjoyed a fun-filled season. learning and playing the game of softball with old friends and new ones. Trophies were set aside and all celebrated the 2017 season together with a water balloon and colored chalk dust battle in the outfield.
