New Jersey City University senior catcher and team captain Marissa Bariso of Hewitt has added two more honors to her weekly cache. She was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro co-Player of the Week. Additionally, Bariso was included by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) to the Other Selected Top Performances list.

Bariso, an elementary education and psychology major, was also selected as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week for the first time. The award, for games played April 7-13, is for week seven of the 2014 season and announced by the league office on Monday.

In four conference games, she batted .800 (8-for-10) with two home runs — the 20th and 21st homers of her career — and produced an .833 on-base percentage and 1.600 slugging rate. She reached base in 10-of-12 plate appearances, adding two doubles, three runs, three RBIs and two walks to her week of results. Defensively, she was perfect in eight chances.

With 21 career home runs entering this week's action, she is only the second player in program history to hit at least 20 round-trippers and now sits two shy of equaling the program's career record of 23 by Jen Barletta (1998-2001). She also upped her career hits mark to 121 last week — ninth all-time.

Bariso, an academic all-district nominee, was outstanding in a pair of NJAC losses at William Paterson University on April 9. In the doubleheader, she was a combined 6-for-6 with two RBIs, two runs, her 31 career double and 20 home run. She was 3-for-3 with an RBI and run in each game. She had a double in game one and hit her third career homer against William Paterson in game two—the most against any school.

In a split with Rutgers-Newark on April 12, Bariso walked twice in game one as NJCU prevailed, 3-0, and was 2-for-3 with a solo homer, a double, one RBI and a run scored in game two. Her first inning homer gave NJCU a 1-0 lead in game two.
