For the past year, the township has had a drop box for safe disposal of any drugs - prescription or over-the-counter - available 24 hours a day. It is located in the lobby of the West Milford Police Department. The drop box is bolted to the floor and under constant video surveillance. According to Det. Eric Darnsteadt, through mid July, the township had collected 450 pounds of unused medication. It is one of the steps the township is taking in helping to prevent drug abuse.
