Raising awareness of drug/alcohol dangers

This story was updated on Aug. 16.

It is billed as "the event you will not want to miss," in part because it has great prizes and in part because it's for a wonderful cause.

On Saturday, Oct. 21, the West Milford Elks will host A Life for Brian Tricky Tray, raising money to help combat addiction.

A Life for Brian is the creation of Carol Cooper of Awosting who lost her son, Brian Dursun, last July, at the age of 32 from a drug overdose. Cooper has made it her mission in life to help those struggling with addiction. She is raising awareness of the dangers of drugs and alcohol, and helping those who still have a chance in life.

"I have already provided scholarships to three individuals who are doing great, and I hope this event will allow me to continue on my journey to save lives," she said.

The tricky tray prizes are designated into tier one and tier two. Cooper said the gifts are "amazing." Some of those amazing gifts include a Cancun vacation, a rare, limited edition sealed four album Grateful Dead record set (only 7,500 were made in 1975), Disney hopper passes, one-of-a-kind sports memorabilia, high-end designer jewelry, Michael Kors watch, gift certificates, jam-packed baskets and much more. New donations continue to come in.

Cooper's goal is between 250 and 300 prizes. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.

The $25 admission includes one sheet of tier one tickets and one strip of tier two tickets. Bundles and additional tickets will be available at the door.

Beverages must be purchased at the Elks; Food will be available a the club but may also be brought in.

Cooper hopes to inspire those who are struggling with addiction and their parents. She encourages the community to come out and support this event and, in turn, support those who are fighting addiction.
