WEST MILFORD – A winning Cash Five lottery ticket worth more than $600,000 was sold at the Tiger Mart in Hewitt, lottery officials said.
According to lottery officials, one ticket matched all five numbers drawn, winning the $673,709 Jersey Cash 5 jackpot from the Sunday, Jan. 27 drawing.
The winning numbers were: 07, 12, 25, 30 and 32 and the XTRA number was: 04.
“We are thrilled that the winning jackpot ticket was sold at Hewitt Tiger Mart. The retailer will receive a bonus check for $2,000 for selling the winning ticket,” Lottery Acting Executive Director James Carey said in a press release. “Overnight, they have become one more ‘lucky location’ for the very fortunate lottery winner.”
A cashier at the Tiger Mart, Kasey Spurlock, said that the apparent winner is a regular at the store and placed the winning bet on Sunday, then returned Monday to claim the prize.
“It was one of our regulars, he comes in every day,” Spurlock said. “He is a good guy and deserves it.”
Spurlock said he plays his numbers at the store every day and was perhaps “overwhelmed” by the win.
State lottery officials have not yet identified the man, and an attempt to reach him for comment through Spurlock, who said she works with him at another job, were not successful as of the paper’s deadline.
Carey said in the release that there were 557,950 tickets purchased for the drawing.
For correctly matching four of the five numbers drawn, 101 ticketholders won $462 each and 18 others won $1,848 each with the addition of XTRA, the release said.
Moreover, for correctly matching three of the five numbers drawn, 3,744 ticketholders won $13 each and 649 others won $52 each with the addition of XTRA.
Lastly 7,550 ticketholders each won $2 for correctly matching two of the five numbers drawn with the addition of XTRA on their purchase, according to the state.
In addition to the local winner’s good fortune, the Tiger Mart gets a $2,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Spurlock said it was the biggest win the store has had in the two years she has worked there.
“We are a small community here (in Hewitt), so we are proud it was one of our regulars,” Spurlock said.
