Mirtila 'Matilda' Vanderbeek

Mirtila "Matilda" Vanderbeek (Reines) passed away Sunday, Oct. 1. She was 87.

Born in Puerto Rico, she was raised in New York City, lived in Fairlawn where she was a homemaker and apartment manager before moving to West Milford 29 years ago.

Vanderbeek also resided in the Netherlands for 12 years with Adrianus, her husband of 70 years. He passed away in 2015.

Full of a lot of love, she is survived by a daughter, Sandra Rust ; son-in-law, Henricus Rust; a son, Alphonus Vanderbeek; a sister, Melba Leslie; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandaughter.

She was also predeceased by a son, Miguel; and a daughter, Cornelia Samuel.

Visiting hours are 4-8 p.m. Wednesday. A service is set for 7 p.m. at Richards Funeral Home, 1440 Union Valley Road, West Milford.

Family and friends are to gather at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home before the interment at Cedar Heights Cemetery, West Milford.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Lung Association would be appreciated.
