With four candidates running for three seats on the Board of Education, that meant that one hopeful was going to be left out.

In this case, it was incumbent board president James Foody.

Re-elected to the board was Nicole Fritz, who was appointed in February to fill the unexpired seat vacated by Marilyn Schultz.

Also winning a spot on the board was Lynda Van Dyk, who had served on the Board of Education from 1996-2010. She was elected board president in 2009.

According to the latest unofficial results provided by the Passaic County clerk’s office, Van Dyk pulled the largest amount of votes: 4,060, or 29.82 percent.

Coming in with the second highest tally was Fritz, with 3,935, or 28.91 percent, according to unofficial results.

Next was newcomer Raymond A. Guarino III, with 3,338, or 24.52 percent.

Foody drew 2,253 votes, or 16.55 percent, according to the unofficial results.

Foody has served on the Board of Education for the past seven years, the last two as its president.

The three trustees-elect will be sworn in in January for three-year terms.

Van Dyk, Fritz and Guarino issued the following joint statement after the election:

“We would like to thank the voters of West Milford for electing us to the Board of Education. The strong showing of support has provided us with the opportunity to provide diligent and dedicated service to the children and taxpayers of our community. Thank you to our families and friends for supporting us on this challenging yet gratifying journey. We look forward to hitting the ground running come January 2018.”
