Dr. Doris Aaronson, PhD, loves education and encourages lifelong learning for everyone.

Retired at her beloved log cabin on the shores of Pinecliff Lake, Aaronson continues to be active in community affairs.

Those in the know say she is often a voice of reason when controversial subjects are under discussion at Town Hall. Aaronson is known to go to the podium to address governing boards – armed with large amounts of statistical information to prove her point.

She supplied financial aid to The Friends of the West Milford Library for the new library construction project and was recognized for her generosity at a small ceremony at the library on Wednesday, Nov. 8.

A tree was planted near the entrance of the building and dedicated to Arronson and a plaque honoring her contributions will be placed in the Environmental Science section of the township's library.

The plaque reads: “In appreciation of Dr. Doris Aaronson, Supportive, Dedicated Patron of the Library.”

She was a professor in the New York University Department of Psychology, Natural Sciences and Linguistics before retiring. In that capacity she taught research methods and statistics to graduate and undergraduate students for more than 30 years.

Having suffered Lyme disease herself, Aaronson has shared her knowledge of medical research on the subject with other professionals.

The NYU professor has a long list of fellowships and honors. She has been a fellow since 1977 in the American Psychological Association; a New York Academy of Sciences Fellow since 1976 and has membership in Pi Mu Epsilon (Math Honors Society).

She is listed in “Who’s Who on Women in Science.”

Her research and related articles have appeared in numerous professional publications throughout the years.
