George "Terry" Jones of West Milford passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Nov. 16. He was 61.

Born Feb. 25, 1956 in Norfolk, VA, he was raised by his mother Madeline Jones and was the ninth of 10 children.

Terry served in the US Army right out of high school, doing a three-year tour in Germany.

He moved to the West Milford area following his honorable discharge from the military.

He was employed for 41 years with Inserra Supermarkets, most recently as the dairy manager for the West Milford ShopRite. Terry was admired by everyone in the local community, and was often referred to as "Mr. Shoprite."

Terry was always there for others, supporting local charities and lending a hand to friends and neighbors in need. Each year he could be found creating shenanigans as a leprechaun with his Notre Dame buddies at the college stadium.

Terry always enjoyed a day on the golf course or a simple backyard break with friends.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dale; his son, Dylan; their dog J; and Terry's siblings Paul, Butch, Gloria, Holly, and Lonnie.

A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Pompton Lakes Elks Lodge from 1-5 p.m. with ceremony at 3 p.m. The lodge is located at 1 Perrin Ave., Pompton Lakes.

Terry gave to many charities. Among his favorites were: West Milford First Aid Squad, West Milford Animal Shelter , and WBGO.org. The family is asking that donations be made in his honor.
