George “Kenezo” Smirgadis, a small-town boy born in Greece on Nov. 14, 1950, who built a wonderful life in America, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 13. He was 67.

He lived his life to the fullest. He gave us many loving memories throughout his life, Such as: his family, his West Milford Diner, the wonderful meals he prepared that brought our family and friends together, including "homeless" meal night at the diner.

Some other fond memories of him were: him giving everyone their own special nickname, giving everyone a taste of "spring water," giving candy to all the children who came to the diner, singing classic rock music in his Greek accent, always saying "I no too enthusiastic about this!"

And using rubbing alcohol as a cure all. (It's a Greek thing). All his grandchildren enjoyed going to Papou's Diner, not only did they get enjoyment out of being there but it also brought such joy to his heart. We will never forget you, your strength, your generosity, your ambition, and your love you have given to all. Rest in peace. We love you so very much.

He is survived by his children, Kimberlee and Richard, Cade and Valerie, Nicholas, Sonya and Cody, Alexandra and Mark; grandchildren Joseph, Kyia, Zackerie, Aidan, Cameron, Liam, Kayleigh, Alexis, Cade Drue, Giuliana, Mark, Luke and Owen; brother Spyro Smergadis; niece Tonia Smergadis; and many other relatives.

He was predeceased by his parents and the love of his life, Kathleen "Keneza" Smirgadis.

The wake will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 19 at Richards Funeral Home, 1440 Union Valley Road, West Milford, NJ.

Disposition will be private.
