Calling all girls in West Milford interested in playing field hockey — it's time to sign up for the team.

The West Milford Youth Travel Team registration is currently posted on the town's Community Service and Recreation Department website.

Girls entering grade 3 through 8 as of this fall are eligible to play. There are two levels — junior team, which are typically elementary school players and senior team, which are typically middle school.

The team is coached by three former West Milford High School graduates and field hockey players that went through the program and who once played for team years ago.

Maura Dunlop, West Milford player 2012, is coaching the senior team and brings a lot of talent and expertise to the program, along with her younger sister, Glenna Dunlop, West Milford player 2016. Bianca Cano, West Milford, 2017, is joining as a volunteer this season.

The program holds practices Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m., starting Aug. 20 through the end of October, with games played against local towns on Saturdays throughout September and October.

The high school program has had success, winning the Passaic County title for two consecutive seasons in 2016 and 2017, as well as gone far in the state tournament each season.

The youth program athletes are invited to a few of the high school team's events throughout the season such as Pink Breakfast for our fight against breast cancer in October, a Pink Play 4 the Cure game, and much more.

The high school athletes also attend youth games to support the program and give back to the team that they love.

The coaches create exciting practice plans to give the athletes exactly what they need to prepare for the games.
