WEST MILFORD – The Highlanders football team lost its third game Oct. 5, falling 25-19 to Wayne Valley on the road.

Wayne Valley put 12 points on the board during the first quarter with quarterback Ryan Michels completing a 46-yard pass to Anthony DePalma and a 3-yard run from Nicola Trani.

The Highlanders’ Brandon Peters ran it in from four yards out in the second period, followed by Wayne Valley’s Chase Hemming bringing in a 4-yard pass from Michels to keep the Indians up 19-6 going into halftime.

West Milford’s quarterback Zackary Milko found receiver Ryan Cole in the third quarter for a 66-yard touchdown, marking that period’s only score, keeping the game in reach 19-13.

Wayne Valley added another score in the fourth quarter with John Testa running it in from 3-yards out.

Milko wasn’t done, however, hitting West Milford receiver Kevin Schaefer for a 56-yard score in the final period.

The loss brings the Highlanders to 3-3 on the season and moves Wayne Valley to 4-2.

Milko completed five of 17 attempts for 161 yards in the air during the game with two touchdowns and an interception.

West Milford ran for a total of 61 yards.

Defensively, Highlanders Raymond Gorny and Sean Kuhn led the way with 19 and 18 tackles respectively.

The Highlanders will try to get back on track at home Friday night against Fair Lawn at 6:30 p.m.
