WEST MILFORD – Quarterback Zackary Milko put on a show Friday night, passing for one touchdown and then running in two to lead the Highlanders to a 21-8 victory over Jefferson at home.
Following a scoreless first quarter, Milko hit receiver Ryan Coyle with a 34-yard scoring pass and later in the second quarter, running it in from 11 yards out to put the Highlanders on top for good.
Jefferson made it interesting in that period, with a touchdown and 2-point conversion, briefly giving them an 8-7 lead.
After a scoreless third quarter, Milko again took the ball into the end zone from 1-yard out.
He also made the three point after kicks on each of the scores.
In the air, Milko was 10 of 12 for 206 yards and led the 163-yard rushing attack with 140 yards on 28 carries.
Coyle caught seven of Milko’s passes for 154 yards, followed by Brandon Peters with 36 yards.
Defensively, the Highlander’s Raymond Gorny and Sean Kuhn notched 21 and 20 tackles respectively.
For Jefferson, Michael Gould ran for 102 yards on 18 carries including their only score, and quarterback Matthew Johnson went four for nine passes for a total of 66 yards in the air.
The win raises West Milford to 5-3 on the year and drops Jefferson to 2-6.
The Highlanders will next face Passaic Valley in Little Falls at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
