Hands-on holiday crafting offered at West Milford Museum

WEST MILFORD - The West Milford Museum is celebrating the holiday season once again by offering a craft table for children and adults to create traditional holiday ornaments, according to the organization.

The ornaments – decorated pine cones, gingerbread people, and Victorian candy cones – are crafted to either hang on the Museum’s tree or to take home. The Museum will provide materials and instructions, and volunteers will be available to assist, according to the organization.

A special seasonal exhibit will be on display at the Museum featuring traditional decorations and activities from earlier periods in history.

Throughout December, visitors can view a Christmas tree decorated with hand-made ornaments and trimmings, discover how a family would have celebrated the holidays 100 years ago, view displays with antique skis, skates, and comforters from the period, learn about the ice cutting industry in the township, as well as enjoy the Museum’s regular exhibits depicting local history, the organization said in a press release.

The Museum is open Saturdays from 1-4 p.m. The dates for the Hands-On Holiday Crafting are Nov. 24, Dec. 1, Dec. 8 and Dec. 15, the release said.

The West Milford Museum is located at 1477 Union Valley Road, and is staffed by volunteer members of the West Milford Heritage Committee.
