It is with sadness that the family of Susan C. Howlett, 99, reports that she made her transition on Dec. 9.

She lived a good, long life.

Born Oct. 20, 1919, in Roselle, to parents Albert and Edith Sanderson, Susan moved from Tom's River to West Milford in 2003 where she lived at The Chelsea senior apartments.

She was predeceased by brothers, Richard A. Sanderson and Robert T. Sanderson, her sister, Jane Taylor, her first husband, William Dean Compton, and second husband Richard M. Howlett.

She will lovingly be remembered by her son, Norman Compton, daughter Joan Compton, daughter-in-law, Janet Compton, grandchildren Dana, Erin and Jaime, and great granddaughter, Jorie.

Susan graduated from Arcadia University, formerly Beaver College, in 1941 with a BS in Childhood Education.

She was an active member of The Dutch Reformed Church in Toms River where she played in the hand bell choir, and Echo Lake Baptist church in West Milford.

Susan was always willing to help someone in need, and will be missed.
