WEST MILFORD – The Lady Highlanders, led by a 17-point performance from Rachel Chandler, beat DePaul 43-33 in the final round of the Blue and Gold Tournament in Pequannock Friday afternoon.

After a dominant first half that had West Milford leading 30-14, the Spartans came out strong in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Lady Highlanders 12-3.

It wasn’t enough, however, as West Milford was able to hold on for the win with the strong play of Chandler, who was selected Player of the Game. Junior Ashley Jacobs also had a big game, racking up seven points and grabbing 13 rebounds in the contest.

Jacobs and sophomore Alex Buonanno were both also critical in the team’s first-round victory over Pequannock, as was sophomore Rory McCormick.

McCormick’s eight rebounds and 26 points, including five 3-pointers, earned her Player of the Game honors in the initial round and propelled the Lady Highlanders to their 44-38 victory, sending them to the final round to face DePaul.

The Lady Highlanders (2-3) are sccheduled to play the Wayne Valley Indians next at home on Jan 3.
