The West Milford High School Lady Highlanders Lacrosse team held its Senior Night Celebration on Wednesday, May 8 as they faced off at home against DePaul.

DePaul took an early lead in the game, scoring 7 goals in the first half. The Highlanders fought back hard, answering with four goals of their own.

West Milford was able to limit DePaul to a single goal scored in the second half of the game, but DePaul was also holding strong on defense, limiting the West Milford team to only two; leaving the Highlanders short in their attempt for a come from behind win.

DePaul took the win with a final score of 8-6.

Highlanders Senior Goalie Genna Longaker started Wednesday's game with 385 Varsity Career Saves. With the 11 blocked attempts she made during the DePaul game, Longaker is only 4 Saves away from a record high Varsity Career 400 Saves.

"The top plays for us were Hope Callamari starting our second half come back with a well-placed free position goal, our defense (led by captains Alex Umansky and Alex Butler) holding their top scorer (Kendal Tully) to one goal and their team to one goal in the second half, and Seniors Aleah Coscia and Mackenzie Keane working until the end (scoring a beautiful goal with 14 seconds left)," Coach Christian Conway said.

Longaker has 150 Saves with a 0.512 Save Percentage so far for the 2019 season.

With 396 total varsity career saves, Longaker looked to surpass her goal of reaching 400 saves on May 11, as the Lady Highlanders LAX faced Pequannock High.

"It is not a school record (695 in 68 games by Casey Butera), but very impressive as she has accomplished it in 31 games,” Conway said. “She will most likely get the school record for career save percentage (currently a 0.517). Her 0.513 saves this season is third in the county. She also earned second team all-county honors May 8 along with Mackenzie Keane."

"While our record does not wow anyone, I am extremely impressed with the effort and resilience this group has shown," Conway said.
