After 46 years, Ringwood Christian School has announced that the school will be closing at the conclusion of this academic school year due to financial reasons stemming from declining enrollment, the school announced this week.

The school Board of Education notified the faculty and parents of the decision on May 10.

The board met with the parents and faculty in April to discuss ways to make reopening a possibility.

A plan for a change in class configurations and ways to increase enrollment were presented.

Parents and board members worked together on different initiatives for several weeks.

After careful consideration, the board felt it necessary to make the hard decision to close the school at the end of the present school year.

In its letter to the parents and faculty, the board encouraged parents and faculty to, “be very thankful for the rich history and amazing accomplishments that God has blessed RCS with over the last 46 years.”

In addition, parents were assured that the school will continue to assist them in the transition process of their children to a new school.

Looking back over her 41 years at Ringwood Christian School, Dr. Donna Furrey, principal, said, “These have been 41 incredible years. I have worked alongside the best faculty, staff and Board of Education that any principal could ask for. The students and school families are my extended family. They have been so supportive and encouraging. Partnering with the Christian church and homes has been a rich experience. The school has been blessed and has been a blessing to many. This decision of the Board of Education is not the closing of a book. The last chapters will be written by the hundreds of young people who have walked through our halls and are now making a difference in their communities, churches and homes. I look forward to hearing even more about what RCS continues to accomplish.”
