Lady Highlanders softball take sectional title

West Milford. The Lady Highlanders softball team won its first sectional title since 2004 last week.

The Lady Highlanders won its first sectional title since 2004 last Wednesday by beating West Essex in the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3 Tournament finals in North Caldwell.

The Knights entered the tournament as the seventh seed while West Milford entered as the eighth.

The game was tied at 1-1 through the fourth inning when the Lady Highlanders knocked in a run in the top of the fifth and another in the seventh to cap off the 3-1 win.

Senior Jessica Perucki continued her outstanding season, striking out eight batters from the mound while also going 2-for-4 with two RBIs as a batter.

Teammate Jenna Mora also had an RBI in the game, while Natalie Marzalik scored the tie-breaking run in the fifth.

It was the fourth straight victory for West Milford after losing to Passaic Tech in the Passaic County Tournament final.

The Lady Highlanders fell to Chatham on Friday in the Group 3 semifinals, finishing the season with a record of 14-11.
