Man found dead on Route 1

Warwick. The man’s body was recovered on December 26 in a drainage ditch near Little Brooklyn Rd; the cause of death has not been determined.

On Tuesday, December 26, at approximately 12:45 p.m., the Town of Warwick Police Department received a call about a man partially submerged in a drainage ditch on County Route 1 near Little Brooklyn Road. Upon their arrival, officers were able to confirm the report and declare the man dead.

According to the officers, he appeared to be in his mid-30s and “may have worked in the area.” No other distinguishing information has been provided at this time. Requests for additonal information regarding race, hair/eye color, etc., were not answered as of January 3.

On December 27, the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy, but the exact cause of death was undetermined, “pending the toxicology results.” The police also said there were no signs of trauma that would have indicated that the man was struck by a vehicle, adding, “It is believed that the victim was last seen on December 16.”

According to the Warwick Police Department, detectives are continuing to conduct interviews and put a timeline together of the man’s final hours, as well as his identification, but noted, “there is nothing suspiscious at this time.”
