Gerald “Jerry” Richard Plunkett passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021, in Pequannock, New Jersey. He was 90 years old.

Jerry was born in Garfield, New Jersey. He attended Pope Pius XII High School in Passaic, New Jersey. He graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1956 with a degree in business management.

He served in the Army from 1951 through 1954, earning the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.

He was a very active member of the Garfield J.C.’s, the VFW, the American Legion Post No. 289 in West Milford, the American Legion Jersey Boys State, the Boys Scouts, the West Milford Veteran’s Council and the Military Order of the Cooties Pup Tent #28.

He was a parishioner at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hewitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Mary (Meny) Plunkett, his brother Raymond Arthur Plunkett and his wife Ann Patricia (Lynch) Plunkett.

He is survived by his sister-in-law Berta Plunkett, sister-in-law Virginia Richards, brother-in law Walter Richards, first cousins Frances (Meny) Bindewald, Emil Meny, Warren Meny and Joan (Plunkett) Blake; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Th viewing was held April 16 at Richards Funeral Home, 1440 Union Valley Road, West Milford.

The Funeral Mass was offered April 17 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1911 Union Valley Road, Hewitt.

Interment was at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, 454 Germantown Road, West Milford, immediately following the mass.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion, Frank M. Sell Memorial Post No. 289, 177 Lincoln Ave. P.O. Box 289 West Milford, NJ 07480.
