Jason T. Cassell of Newton, N.J., passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 7, 2021. He was 39.

Born in Belleville, N.J., he grew up in Kearny, N.J., before moving to Newton many years ago.

Jason had worked as a caregiver in a group home setting for the Catholic Charities assisting the develop mentally disabled in all activities of daily living as well as taking those able to go out into the communities, to parks, restaurants, and movies, which he especially liked to do. He had also worked for Bristol Glenn in maintenance and housekeeping as well as Hackettstown Hospital in housekeeping and room sterilization. He received several notes from patients for his genuine care.

A loyal San Francisco 49ers fan, Jason was also a talented tennis player.

He is survived by his father and mother, Roger and Pam Cassell; beloved sister, Heather Cassell; aunts and uncles, Barbara and Charles Patire, Cherie and Terry Shaw, and Richard Cassell; many first, second, and third cousins; many devoted friends; and his constant companion, his dog, Diesel.

Due to the overwhelming messages of support and grief from family, church family, and from his friends and Facebook contacts who have posted messages thanking him for his friendship and constant support, it is clear that Jason has made a major impact on many people’s lives, and this loss is devastating to everyone who knew him. Jason was always willing and loved to help others.

Visitation was held March 11 and 12, with funeral services on March 12, in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, Newton. Interment immediately followed in the Frankford Plains Cemetery.
