John H. O’Dell Jr. of Ogdensburg, N.J., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021, at his residence. He was 78.

Born in Paterson, N.J., to John H. O’Dell, Sr. and Mary (McPike) O’Dell, John lived in West Milford, N.J., before moving to Ogdensburg 25 years ago. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.

John had been a self-employed carpenter before his retirement. John enjoyed hunting.

He was predeceased by his son John H. O’Dell III, on Jan. 19, 2021, and his sister, Joan.

John is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sharon G. (Miller) O’Dell of Ogdensburg; son Chad O’Dell of Ogdensburg; and grandchildren, Taylor, Dean and Cameron.

A memorial visitation will be held in conjunction with his son, John H. O’Dell III, who predeceased him. The visitation will be held on Sunday, March 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank St. (Route 23), Sussex, N.J. Services with military honors will immediately follow at 4 p.m. Due to New Jersey government health restrictions, attendees will be limited and are required to wear face masks at all times and practice proper social distancing.

Private cremation services have been entrusted to the Pinkel Funeral Home.
