Lawrence C. Malewit Jr.

Lawrence C. Malewit Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2020, in West Milford, N.J. He was 83 years of age.

The son of Agnes and Lawrence Malewit Sr., Larry was born in Queens, N.Y., graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in 1955 and then joined the USMC where he served from 1955 to 1963 attaining the rank of corporal.

He then began a career as a manager with the Continental Can Company and attended FDU attaining a degree in Business Administration, whereby he eventually retired in 1989.

Larry was married to Theresa Franzino in 1960 and they moved to West Milford in 1962. Theresa then passed away unexpectedly in 1992.

He leaves behind their four children: Lawrence III of Vernon, Michael of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Darlene Malewit of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Renee Riley of Vernon, NJ.

He was the grandfather of Lawrence IV, Jacqueline, Mark, Jesse, Megan, Kendall, Sean, Alanna, Spencer and Krystle and great-grandfather to Sigurd; a brother Ronald of South Glens Falls, N.Y.; nieces Olivia Vassallo of Nanuet, N.Y.; and Joann Franzino of Garfield, N.J., his wife Loody Tamboer-Malewit of eight years and stepson Gary Tamboer and granddaughters Savannah and Cheyenne.

Lawrence is preceded in death by his sister Susan Horn of Nanuet, N.Y.

In Larry’s younger years, he proudly attained the rank of Eagle Scout with Bronze and Silver Palms as well as the Order of the Sparrow.

Larry loved reading, hunting, target shooting, bowling, riding his Harley and was a member of the Bergen County HOG in Rochelle Park, N.J.

In August 2014, Larry went sky-diving at the unbelievable age of 77.

Services were held Dec. 1 at the Richards Funeral Home, 1440 Union Valley Road, West Milford, N.J.

Interment took place at Cedar Heights Cemetery in West Milford on Dec. 2.
