Leo J. Whitty of Vernon, N.J., passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 24, 2021. He was 98.

Leo was born on July 12, 1923 in West Paterson, N.J., to Samuel and Mary (Stemmer) Whitty.

Leo proudly served during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was the owner-operator of Whitty Transmissions in West Milford, N.J., for many years.

Leo was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Whitty; his daughter Janice Whitty; son Kenneth Whitty; and his eight siblings.

He is survived by five sons and three daughters, Bruce Whitty and his wife, Cathy, of Pequannock, N.J., Thomas Whitty and his wife Lisa of Vernon, Michael Whitty of Wantage, N.J., Lee Whitty and his wife, Anne, and David Whitty and his wife, Cheryl, both of Vernon, Mary Schroeder of Myrtle Beach, N.C., Nancy Schultz and her husband, Brian, and Karen O’Keefe and her husband, Tim, both of Vernon; and his 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held July 28 at the Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, Vernon. Graveside services were private.
