Members of Company 6 lit up their firehouse during the “Light the Night” tribute to honor fallen firefighters.

Red lights illuminating the firehouse at 605 Ridge Road were visible to the public as members of West Milford Fire Company 6 participated in an annual observance to honor fallen firefighters across the nation on Oct. 5-6.

The company participated in the tribute through the “Light the Night” part of the observance.

The 38th National Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial Service at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg Md., this year honored 92 firefighters who died in 2018 and 27 who died in previous years.

The event was attended by more than 5,000 people from across the nation.

The names of the fallen firefighters were read, and their loved ones were presented with an American flag that flew alongside the National Fallen Fire Fighters memorial.

A bronze plaque bearing their names was to be officially added to the existing memorial.

The weekend of activities in Emmitsburg included specialized activities for family members and culminated with an Oct. 6 morning memorial service.

Lighting the Fire Department in red during the weekend was an additional symbol of support and comfort to the families and co-workers who were honored.
