West Milford. West Milford Police detail three DWI arrests made during February.

    The following items come directly from the West Milford Police Department’s service call report for February 2021:

    DWI: Saturday, Feb. 6, 1:19 a.m.

    At 1:19 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, Officer Jonathan Bregman was patrolling Morsetown Road when he observed a blue Ford Ranger pickup truck driving in front of him.

    According to the police report, Bregman observed the pickup truck to be weaving over the center and fog line while travelling at a high rate of speed.

    Bregman initiated a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the driver, Nathan Malka, 22, of West Milford, and two adult passengers in the pickup.

    Police said that while speaking to Malka, Bregman detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage and observed signs of intoxication.

    Malka was placed under arrest for DWI after police said he failed the standard field sobriety tests.

    He was transported and processed. Malka also was charged with reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and speeding. He was released to a friend pending initial appearance in West Milford Municipal Court.

    DWI: Saturday, Feb. 6, 3:01 a.m.

    At 3:01 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, Officer Robert Kulawiak was dispatched to Route 23 North near the Hardyston border following a report of a vehicle in the center median.

    On his arrival to the area Officer Kulawiak located the vehicle in the center median. He was also met by a Hardyston Police Unit.

    Kulawiak then made contact with the driver, Lorenzo Thompson, 31, of Paterson, N.J.

    Police said that while speaking to Thompson, Kulawiak detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage and observed signs of intoxication.

    Thompson was placed under arrest for DWI after police said he failed standard field sobriety tests.

    He was transported and processed. Thompson also was charged with careless driving. He was released to a friend pending initial appearance in West Milford Municipal Court.

    DWI: Thursday, Feb. 25, 7:22 p.m.

    On Thursday, Feb. 25, at 7:22 p.m., Officers Kevin Canova and William Pittelko were dispatched to a Setting Sun Trail address on a report of a dispute.

    While enroute to the call, Dispatch was alerted that one of the parties involved in the dispute was reportedly intoxicated and left the area driving a white Ford pickup truck.

    Canova located a Ford pickup on Otterhole Road matching the description provided to Dispatch and later initiated a motor vehicle stop on Schofield Road.

    Canova then made contact with the driver and lone occupant, Adam Gubich, 53, of Newfoundland, N.J.

    Police said that while speaking to Gubich, Canova detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage, observed signs of intoxication and also observed an open container of alcohol in the center console.

    Gubich was placed under arrest for DWI after police said he failed standard field sobriety tests.

    He was transported and processed. Gubich also was with refusal to submit breath samples and open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

    He was released to a friend pending an initial appearance in West Milford Municipal Court.
