Officers Kevin Canova, Robert Kulawiak and Thomas Connors were all dispatched to the scene.

On arrival, Canova observed a group of people loudly arguing; he also observed a 2018 Dodge Ram pickup truck pulling away from the area and attempting to leave the parking lot.

The officer stopped the vehicle to ascertain if the occupant was involved in the dispute.

He made contact with the driver and sole occupant David Grycmacher, 24, of West Milford.

Police said that while speaking to Grycmacher, Canova detected a strong odor of alcohol and saw two open containers of alcoholic beverages in the cup holders.

While Canova was instructing Grycmacher out of the truck one of the males involved in the dispute began to approach them. Officers Kulawiak and Connors arrived on scene to handle the dispute.

Canova continued conducting standard field sobriety tests. Grycmacher was subsequently placed under arrest for DWI.

He also was charged with refusal to submit to breath testing and open alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle.

He was released to a family member pending initial appearance in West Milford Municipal Court.
