    DWI
    On November 4, 2018 at 12:15 AM West Milford Police Officer Jill Brickman came upon a motor vehicle accident on Union Valley Road near Bald Eagle Village. The driver of the vehicle, 27 year old Tyler Lehman of Haskell, NJ, was entrapped in the vehicle which impacted several trees. West Milford Fire Companies 6 and 3 responded to extricate the driver and only occupant of the vehicle. Members from the UGLFAS and paramedics from Chilton Hospital responded to the scene and transported the driver to Morristown Hospital to be examined. The driver exhibited signs of intoxication and evidence at the scene indicated the driver had been consuming alcohol. The accused was charged with DWI, no seatbelt, open container, failure to keep right and reckless driving. He has a future municipal court date pending.
    DWI
    On November 4, 2018 at approximately 1:52 AM West Milford Police were informed to conduct a welfare check of a person inside a vehicle at a local gas station. Just as an officer located the vehicle, the driver drove off on Union Valley Road near the center of town. Officer
    Stephen Herzog conducted a motor vehicle stop on the driver and identified him as 31 year old Steven Abascal of Hewitt, NJ. While speaking to the driver the officer observed vomit on the driver and inside the vehicle. The officer also detected signs of intoxication from the driver. After failing his sobriety tests, the driver was placed under arrest for DWI. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and charged with DWI and reckless driving. He was released to a friend and is awaiting his first court date.
    DWI
    On November 11, 2018 at approximately 6:41PM West Milford Police Officer Charles McQuaid responded to Upper Greenwood Road just in from Lake Shore Drive, on a report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon his arrival the officer observed the driver of the one car accident attempting to get the vehicle restarted. He identified the driver as 29 year old Harold Kewer Jr of Hewitt, NJ. The driver exhibited signs of intoxication and after failing his sobriety tests he was placed under arrest for DWI. He was transported to police headquarters and processed. The accused was issued summonses for DWI, failure to drive within a single lane and several other motor vehicle violations. He was released to a family member with a future court date pending.
    Shoplifting Arrest
    On November 11, 2018 at approximately 7:37 PM West Milford Police Officer Matthew Kloo responded to the Shoprite on a report of a shoplifter being detained by store security. Upon the officers arrival he identified the shoplifter as 52 year old Amy Alice Kelly of Hewitt, NJ. She is accused of transferring items along the self-checkout line without scanning them. She was charged and released on a summons with shoplifting, a disorderly persons offense.
    DWI
    On November 12, 2018 at approximately 6:35 PM West Milford Police Officer Denis Welch responded to Route 23 near Doremus Road on a report of a vehicle stuck in the grass median. Upon his arrival to the area, the officer located the vehicle with the driver still in it. He identified the driver as 68 year old Edward Roenelt of Stockholm, NJ. While speaking with the driver the officer detected signs of intoxication. After failing his sobriety tests, the driver was placed under arrest for DWI. He was transported to police headquarters for processing. He was charged with DWI, failure to drive within a single lane, reckless driving, and fictitious plates. He was released to a friend and is awaiting his first court date.
    DWI
    On November 13, 2018 at approximately 7:00 PM West Milford Police Officer James McMahon responded to a motorcycle accident on Greenwood Lake Turnpike near Burnt Meadow Rd. Upon arrival officers rendered first aid to the motorcyclist who was identified as 58 year old Ringwood, NJ resident Carlos Diaz. While speaking with the Mr. Diaz, the officer detected signs of intoxication and therefore placed the accused under arrest for DWI. He was transported to St Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, NJ where he refused medical attention. He was transported back to the West Milford Police Department where he was processed for DWI. He was issued summonses for DWI, open container, careless driving and failure to drive within a single lane. He was released to a family member and is awaiting his first municipal court date.
    DWI
    On November 18, 2018 at approximately 9:30 PM West Milford Police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 23 North before Echo Lake Road on a report of a roll over involving downed wires. Upon Officer Jonathan Bregmans arrival, he observed a large debris field in the roadway from the accident. According to witnesses, the driver of the truck that rolled over, identified as 51 year old William Youells from Rockaway, NJ was travelling at a high rate of speed in the fast lane when he swerved right abruptly striking a snow embankment and a telephone pole before over turning into the roadway. The driver exhibited signs of intoxication and after failing his sobriety tests he was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. The driver was issued summonses for DWI, Reckless Driving and Failure to Keep Right. He was given a future municipal court date and released to a friend. Due to the accident, Route 23 North was closed for approximately 5 hours while the roadway was cleared and repairs were made to the utility pole.
    Eluding & Resisting Arrest
    On November 27, 2018 at approximately 3:20 PM West Milford Police Officers were conducting a criminal investigation involving 38 year old Hewitt, NJ resident Frederick Steinman 4th. The accused had fled the scene of the crime prior to police arrival. West Milford Police Officers Carol Stelmach and James McMahon observed Mr. Steinman pass their location and the officers attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop on the accused. While passing several vehicles on Union Valley Road the driver ignored officers warnings to stop and he continued to flee the scene. The accused’s vehicle eventually became disabled and struck a curb near the Pinecliff Lake Clubhouse. The accused opened the drivers door and before he was able to flee on foot, officers struggled with the driver before placing him under arrest. He was transported to police headquarters where he was criminally charged with burglary, criminal mischief, eluding, resisting arrest and numerous motor vehicle violations. He was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson prior to be lodged at the Passaic County Jail to await his first court hearing.
