However, in the spirit of transparency, the Police Dept. strives to release all information that can be released without compromising ongoing investigations or causing unnecessary harm to victims.

    Firing a weapon on unapproved range
    On April 7, 2019 at approximately 7:10 PM West Milford Police were alerted about someone firing a shotgun at the end of Virginia Lane.
    Officers responded and found a vehicle parked at the end of the cul de sac. Inside the vehicle officers observed a gun case on the back seat.
    Officers phoned the registered owner of the vehicle who made his way back to his vehicle through the woods. West Milford resident Cody Marienthal, 26, emerged and admitted to sighting in his weapon on property that belonged to him. Marienthal was issued a township ordinance by Officer Stephen Herzog for firing a weapon on an unapproved range.

    DWI
    On April 8, 2019 at approximately 11:15 PM West Milford Police Officer James McMahon was on a service call when he heard what sounded like a bumper rubbing against a cars tire and what sounded like something being dragged by a car. He then noticed the driver of a four door sedan having difficulty backing into a parking space at the Reflection Lakes Apartments. When the officer went over to investigate he noticed severe front end damage to the vehicle. When he inquired as to what happened the driver admitted to striking a tree on Gould Road. While speaking to the driver he detected signs of intoxication. The sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as 59 year old West Milford resident Susan Connors. After failing her sobriety tests she was placed under arrest for DWI. She was processed and additionally charged with reckless driving, failure to maintain a lane, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident and failure to change her address. The accused was released to a family member and is awaiting her fist municipal court date.

    Possession of Marijuana
    At approximately 2:35 PM on April 9, 2019 West Milford Police Officer Thomas Connors was approached at a convenience store and told by a patron that two males in the parking lot appeared under the influence from marijuana. The odor of raw marijuana was smelt by the patron.
    When the officer went to investigate, the driver was exiting the parking lot. Officer Connors was able to stop the vehicle and as he approached the vehicle he smelt the odor of raw marijuana. An occupant of the vehicle admitted to having marijuana inside his back pack. The accused, 28 year old West Milford resident Stefano Hubbard, was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana under 50 grams and possession of paraphernalia. He was transported to headquarters and processed before being released on a summons.

    Possession of Marijuana
    On Saturday April 20, 2019 at approximately 9:40 AM West Milford Police Officer Stephen Herzog stopped a driver on Greenwood Lake Turnpike for tailgating. The driver was identified as 22 year old Paterson, NJ resident Khadijah Abdullah. While speaking with the driver the officer smelt an odor of raw marijuana coming from within the vehicle. Located inside were cigar shavings and a plastic stem from a cigar that smelled of burnt marijuana. Inside the glove box was located a glass jar with marijuana inside. The driver admitted the marijuana was hers and she was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana. She was transported to police headquarters to be processed. In addition to the possession of marijuana charge, she was also charged with tailgating, driving while suspended and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle. She was released on summonses and is awaiting her first court date.

    DWI and Possession of CDS
    On April 22, 2019 at approximately 9:00 AM a motorist called West Milford Police to report an erratic driver. The license plate and vehicle description were provided to the dispatcher and radioed to officers.
    Officer Michael Onembo observed the vehicle turn into the Tractor Supply parking lot with its right side mirror missing and also having damage to a tail light. A motor vehicle stop was conducted in the parking lot and the driver was identified as 38 year old Hewitt resident Michael Coulahan. While speaking to the driver the officer noticed signs of drug use. The driver was asked to perform sobriety tests which he performed poorly. He was then placed under arrest for DWI. Located in the driver’s vehicle were open containers of alcohol, heroin, drug paraphernalia, and a crossbow. He was charged criminally with DWI, CDS in a motor vehicle, open container, possession of heroin, possession of a hypodermic syringe, being under the influence of CDS and possession of a weapon by a person convicted of certain crimes. He was charged on a warrant and remanded to the Passaic County Jail to await his first CJP hearing.

    DWI
    On April 27, 2019 at approximately 11:30 PM West Milford Police Officer Jonathan Bregman was travelling north on Union Valley Road in the center of town when he noticed the driver in front of him having difficulty maintaining the lane of travel. The driver was also travelling above the speed limit. The officer stopped the driver near the West Milford Post Office and identified the driver as 37 year old Rasheed Landrum of Irvington, NJ. While speaking with the driver, the officer detected signs of intoxication. The accused was asked to perform sobriety tests which he was unable to perform in a satisfactory manner. He was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters for processing. The accused refused to provide samples of his breath for testing purposes. The accused was charged with DWI, refusal to submit breath samples, open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, failure to maintain a lane and speeding. He was released to a friend and is awaiting his first court date.

    DWI
    On April 30, 2019 at approximately 9:45 PM West Milford Police Officer Frank Elia was assisting another officer at the scene of an accident on Lake Shore Road. While blocking the roadway from oncoming traffic, the officer heard a vehicle a distance away “spinning its tires”. An onlooker from the original accident alerted the officer to another accident where the driver was attempting to drive away. As the officer arrived at the second accident, the driver was being combative toward a witness. The driver involved in the accident was determined to be 55 year old Hewitt, NJ resident Peter Rodriguez. The accused was placed under arrest for DWI and transported to police headquarters to be processed. He was charged with DWI, careless driving, leaving the scene with property damage, failure to report an accident and refusal to submit to breath samples. He was released to a friend and is awaiting his first court appearance.
